Sharma Ghaos's Story

Sharma, aged 13 years, suffered from recurrent episodes of pain and discomfort in her left ear. There was intermittent discharge of pain and pus. She also felt like her sense of hearing was affected. These symptoms were a cause of great panic for Sharma’s parents and they took her to a doctor. On detailed examination, she was diagnosed with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) which refers to inflammation in a specific part of the ear.

Initially, painkillers and antibiotics were prescribed to Sharma. They did provide temporary relief. However, the problem was not solved. On further consultation, Sharma’s doctor advised a tympanomastoidectomy along with ossiculoplasty for her affected ear. In tympanomastoidectomy, the doctor removes the infected tissue. In ossiculoplasty, the sound transmitting mechanism is restored surgically.

 These surgeries are however very costly. Sharma’s father works as a farmer and earns only PKR 7000 per month. In this meager salary, he is supporting eight members of his family. After paying all the bills and managing the household expenses, there is no money left to save. Her father felt extreme guilt over not being able to pay for her surgery. He shared his worries with a friend who told him about our organization. He immediately got in touch and registered Sharma with us. Expressing his gratitude,  this is what Sharma’s father had to say:

“My daughter’s ear has been infected for more than three years now. Seeing her in so much pain has taken a toll on our health as well. Her mother used to pray all night for her recovery. Team Transparent Hands has come as a huge blessing our way. We are extremely grateful.”
