Saira Abid's Story
Saira Abid, 27 years old, has been suffering from pain in her right hypochondriac area along with abdominal distention, stretch, and vomiting for the last one year. In the last 2 months, her symptoms have worsened to the point that she can no longer actively move around. She visited her local hospital when matters became worse and was diagnosed with cholelithiasis (stones in the gallbladder). For permanent relief, the doctors have advised cholecystectomy surgery to remove her gallbladder but she is unable to move forward with it due to financial constraints.
Saira and her husband have three sons, all under the age of 7. Her eldest son is mute by birth and is also mentally differently-abled. Saira’s husband runs a small shop in his village which brings home a profit of around 400 PKR/day or an average of 10,000 PKR/month.
“My eldest son has special needs. He requires certain medicines every month. Sometimes, our kindly neighbours pitch into the cost of his medicines but other times, we have to buy them ourselves and they are expensive. We already don’t have much to spare so I always try to keep my own needs to a minimum, so my children’s needs can be met first. I would never even have thought about going for my surgery if TH hadn’t offered to help.” – Saira Abid

Saira Abid's Story
27-year-old Saira Abid was diagnosed with cholelithiasis (gall stones) and was recommended a laparoscopic cholecystectomy by her surgeon. She was admitted in Abid hospital and the surgery was performed by Dr. Abdul Saeed Sajjid on 22.10.2020. Her gall bladder having stones was removed successfully. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. Saira’s abdominal pain and discomfort is gone. She feels much better post-surgery.
“I had severe abdominal pain. It got so unbearable sometimes that I could not perform any of the household chores, neither could I sleep. This surgery was crucial for me at this point.”- Saira Abid
