Maryam Bibi's Story

12-year-old Maryam Bibi started experiencing acute pain on the right side of her abdomen which has been diagnosed as appendicitis. The doctors at her local hospital recommended an operation- an appendectomy- to remove the appendix as soon as possible. However, even with a reference, her mother has not been able to get an urgent appointment there. Maryam has been given a waiting time of 5 days. Since her infection has progressed quite far, if she waits that long, her appendix could rupture and cause a far more serious and life-threatening infection in her body.

Maryam’s father passed away three years ago. Since then, her mother is the sole breadwinner for her and her 2 brothers. Working as a housemaid, she manages to earn around 13,000 PKR a month. This is barely enough to meet the family’s basic requirements each month. Hence, having Maryam’s surgery at a private hospital is too expensive and not an option for them. In desperate need of urgent help, Maryam’s mother has contacted Transparent Hands.

However, now I am in urgent need of help. I cannot get my daughter’s surgery done alone because even with two shifts a day, I won’t manage to earn enough. Maryam Bibi's Story

Maryam Bibi, 13 years old, was experiencing severe pain in her right lower abdomen. She was diagnosed as a case of acute appendicitis and was advised an appendectomy. Her surgery was done on 02-03-20, at Akram Medical Complex, by Dr Ahmed Fawad. She recovered well in her one day of hospital stay and was discharged in good health.
