Muhammad Saleem's Story
“I am sitting here barely able to walk as I see more and more debt being laid on me but the only way I can feed my children right now is by borrowing money. I don’t know how I am going to pay it off when I cannot work or even move. I have never felt so helpless in my life.” – Saleem
Saleem. 44 years old, got hit by a car in an unfortunate accident a year ago. The accident resulted in a fractured bone in his leg. He was immediately transferred to the emergency room of the nearest hospital where the doctors tried to fix the badly damaged bone. They fixed his leg with an implant and applied plaster for four months. Despite these procedures, Saleem’s leg did not heal properly and progressed to non-union of the bones. In order to heal, he has now been recommended an Ilizarov fixator application.
Previously earning 13,000 PKR/month as a driver, Saleem is now penniless after losing his job because of the accident. His own survival and that of his wife and three children is completely dependent on his relatives and friends right now. His landlord has been kind enough to temporarily waive off his rent worth 5000 PKR but Saleem’s other unpaid bills are still stacking up. He cannot afford to add the expense of his surgery on top of all these financial obligations.
Saleem’s situation may be difficult but he is not helpless. He can get the help he deserves from all of us.
