Donate to Ghulam Jannat for Her Cataract Surgery
Ghulam Jannat's Story
Ghulam Jannat, 66 years of age, has been diagnosed with a cataract in her left eye. This normally occurs in old age and due to this condition, the lens of the eye gets clouded, reducing the vision. To restore her vision, cataract surgery is required in which the lens of her eye will be replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
Jannat has 1 son and 5 daughters, all of whom are married. She and her husband are too old to work now so they live with one of their grandsons, who supports them. Working as a laborer, he earns around 600 PKR/day, bringing his average income to around 14,000 PKR/month. With this income, he looks after his own family, his parents as well as his grandmother (Jannat) and grandfather. With so many members relying on a meager salary, Jannat’s cataract surgery cannot be arranged by her grandson.
“My uncle is my grandparents’ only son but he refuses to support them or send them money. I cannot leave them alone in their old age so I try my best to look after them. But there is only so much I can do on a laborer’s income.” – Ghulam Jannat’s grandson
