Arshad Ali's Story

12-year-old Arshad Ali acquired typhoid perforation after high fever and abdominal pain that wreaked havoc on his health. This is a complication of typhoid fever that causes leakage of intestinal contents into the abdomen causing peritonitis, an intra-abdominal infection.

To save Arshad from further complications, the doctors in a government hospital performed ileostomy after exploration. Post-surgery, Arshad took prescribed medicines for a few months.

Now, the doctors have recommended an ileostomy reversal surgery but the family has not been able to obtain an appointment in any of the local hospitals for it. They cannot afford to go to a private hospital because of lack of financial resources.

Arshad’s father worked as a security guard but had to leave his job one month ago because he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. One of his brothers is a daily wager and earns a meagre salary of PKR 20,000 per month. All five family members are dependent on him.

Observing the tough situation of Arshad’s family, one of their relatives told them that if their case gets registered with Transparent Hands foundation, they would be facilitated with free surgical treatment. So, as a last resort, they contacted us and their case is now registered with us.
