Amjid Ali's Story
Amjid Ali, 58 years old, had a road accident two years ago in which he injured his leg. He was treated with plaster and was given a course of medication for 1.5 months following which, his plaster was removed. Unfortunately, Amjid’s leg did not heal properly and he was advised to have knee replacement surgery. Before the operation, his routine tests were conducted, which included an ECHO test. Surprisingly, the ECHO test revealed that one of his heart valves is non-functional and another is only 50% functional. Unbeknownst to him, his heart condition had been gradually worsening.
Before his knee could be treated, Amjid’s doctor recommended to him to have his angiography as well as PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) conducted, so his heart condition could be fully investigated and treated first. Amjid had these cardiac procedures done and they have shown that he has triple vessel disease and needs urgent open-heart surgery. However, he has been unable to find a free appointment for his heart surgery and is currently just stuck, able to proceed with neither his heart treatment nor his knee operation.
“For a poor street vendor, having just one serious health problem is bad news because he knows that it won’t be easy to get treated. After all the struggle I went through for my knee, it was really disappointing to find out that another problem is brewing fast. Now everything seems neither here nor there: I have an appointment for my knee operation but I cannot get it done before my heart condition is dealt with. But I cannot deal with my heart condition because I have no appointment for its surgery.”- Amjid
Amjid works as a salesman in different areas of Karachi. Currently, he is running a soda stall that earns him a daily profit of around 300-400 PKR. Living in a city as expensive as Karachi with 4 children and his wife to support, it is not possible for him to bear his medical expenses.
In his predicament, Amjid has asked Transparent Hands for help. We support him. If you wish to do the same, please donate to him today.
Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Following the surgery/medical procedure, we persist in collecting funds and maintain the campaign on the website until funding is secured in full. Hospitals have granted us a grace period for bill payment.
Amjid Ali's Story
58-year-old Amjid Ali was diagnosed with ischemic heart disease and was advised an angiography by his cardiologist. He was admitted in National Hospital and Medical Center and the procedure was performed by Dr. Tayyab Mohyuddin on 08.09.2020. He was found to have multi-vessel coronary disease. After the angiography, the doctors decided that an open heart surgery (CABG) was necessary for Amjid’s heart. His open heart surgery was performed on 08.10.2020 in the same hospital by Dr. Tayyab Pasha. Amjid stayed in the hospital for eight days and was discharged in a stable condition. The prompt surgery gave him a second life.
“I did not have any means to fund for the angiography procedure. Transparent Hands paid not only for my angiography but also for the open heart surgery. I feel much better now. My weakness is subsiding. I hope that I can resume working on my soda water stall again as soon as possible.”- Amjid Ali
