Amina Bibi's Story
“It was during a visit to her doctor a few months ago when we learned about her heart condition. It was a shock to find out that Amina was born with a heart defect because she is almost three and it was never diagnosed before. The doctor told us that if not treated in time, this defect can affect her growth and risk her life. We wish to protect our daughter at all costs. Please help us do so.” – Amina’s mother.
2.5-year-old Amina Bibi was born with an ASD (Atrial Septal Defect), more commonly known as a hole in the heart. This hole allows oxygen-rich blood to mix with oxygen-poor blood in the heart and reduces the efficiency of the circulation. Her parents found out about her condition only three months ago, when a doctor alerted them of her symptoms.
Amina suffers from a rapid breathing rate, coughing, frequent vomiting, low appetite, and low energy on account of her condition. In order to restore her condition to normal, she requires a cardiac procedure- a PDA device closure- as soon as possible. Her parents took her to a pediatric institute in Lahore for free treatment but their requests were not heard. If done privately, the cost of this procedure is out of their means.
Amina’s father, Murtaza, works at a car wash. On his best day, he manages to earn 1200 PKR but on several days each month, he gets no customers so he earns nothing. His monthly income comes around to 14,000 PKR on average, which helps to support 13 members of the joint family system that Amina and her parents live in. This family owns no other property apart from the house that they reside in and Murtaza’s small car service station. Due to their limited resources, Amina’s treatment has been stalled for several months. Finally, her parents contacted Transparent Hands.

Amina Bibi's Story
Amina Bibi, two and a half years old, was diagnosed with patent ductus arteriosus and was advised a device occlusion for it. For this purpose, she was admitted in Ittefaq hospital and the procedure was performed by Dr. Syed Najam Hyder on 26.10.2020. Amina’s congenital defect was closed. She stayed in the hospital for one day and was discharged in a stable condition. She has had a splendid recovery. The surgery was conducted with the support of Pakistan Children Heart foundation and other donors.
