Shamim Akhtar is a 43 years old mother who is living in a small town of Lahore with her 3 sons and 1 daughter. Her husband died 7 years ago. Since then, she has been working as a house maid earning around 7,000 rupees a month. None of her children goes to school due to limited finance. Her 11 years old son is learning mechanic work whereas her 9 years old son is learning tailoring. Her youngest son is suffering from mental illness since birth. Shamim’s only daughter helps her mother in household chores. They all live in a rented house and paying 3,000 rupees rent monthly. Her brothers also support her for her household expenses.

Shamim has been suffering from huge lump in front of her neck with severe pain and discomfort since last 9 months. Due to this, she often feels difficulty in breathing. She went to a hospital with reference, but couldn’t afford treatment charges and left. She has been working with this swelling for a few months. But now, it has started getting bigger and she is unable to work and take care of her children actively. She is diagnosed with Dominant Nodule in Multinodular Goiter. Doctor has advised her to undergo surgery for permanent relief but due to limited finance, she is unable to even buy medicines.

Shamim Akhtar's Story

Shamim Akhter 43 years old lady had long-standing neck swelling. She was diagnosed with Multinodular Goiter and surgery was recommended for her management. She was operated on 14/03/18 at Akram Medical Complex by Dr. Ahmed Fawad. Her subtotal thyroidectomy was done. She remained alright during her post-operative period and was discharged symptom-free after 2 days of hospital stay.
