This 3 years old boy is suffering from Hirschsprung disease and needs urgent help

Muhammad Ahmed is a 3 years old boy who was born with Hirschsprung Disease – a condition that affects the large intestine (colon) and causes problems with passing stool. The condition is present at birth (congenital) as a result of missing nerve cells in the muscles of the baby’s colon. He underwent his first surgery from a local hospital when he was only 3 months old. Doctor opened the temporary passage for stool on his abdomen and recommended that Ahmed has to undergo another surgery to reverse the passage.

Ahmed’s father has requested hospital many times to conduct his second surgery but they are not giving him any date for free treatment. Three years have passed and Ahmed is unable to live a normal life. His father doesn’t have enough money to treat him from a private hospital. He works as a daily wage labourer and hardly earns around 8,000 rupees a month. In such meager income, it is very difficult for him to take care of his 4 kids and pay for their school fees and other household expenses. He is also unable to work most of the days due to his brain injury because of accident. Ahmed is currently experiencing severe abdominal pain and rashes at stoma site which makes him feel uncomfortable. Luckily, he is now registered with Transparent Hands for his surgery.

Muhammad Ahmed is scheduled for his Duhamel Surgery in a few days at Akram Medical Complex. After the surgery, he’ll be able to pass stool through normal passage and can also go outside without hesitation and embarrassment which he has to face now.

Muhammad Ahmed's Story

Muhammad Ahmed 3 years old boy had his colostomy made in an emergency surgery at the age of 3 months for intestinal obstruction. He was later diagnosed to have Hirschsprung’s disease. He was advised another surgery to reverse this temporary opening for passage of stools. His surgery was done in Akram Medical Complex on 28-11-18 by Dr Naveed Haider. His colostomy was closed by duhamel pull-through surgery and intestinal continuity was restored. He stayed for 7 days in hospital and recovered well. He was discharged in good health.
