Urooj Alam's Story

Urooj is a young teenager who has had recurrent problem of sore throat for the last two years now. She lives in Katlang, Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with six siblings and a mother who works hard day and night to provide for herself and her dear children. Urooj’s father passed away some time ago and she has no one else to look out for her and her family. Her mother is a household tailor. It is not easy for her to make enough money for herself and her children.

For Urooj Alam’s condition, her doctors recommended a tonsillectomy, which is a surgical procedure and it involves removing the tonsils. Tonsils are small glands that are present at the back of a person’s throat. This will help 17-year-old Urooj in getting rid of her chronic tonsillitis. The good part about this treatment is that it is very safe and a very common procedure to help treat chronic tonsillitis. However, the negative aspect is, that it is too expensive for Urooj’s mother to afford. Urooj says herself:

“The doctors have told me now that it is not a difficult surgery and doctors do it all the time to treat patients that are facing the same problems as I am. I do worry about this a little. I want to get healthy again, my throat hurts too much and I am tired of all the medications that are supposed to help me get better. I have a good feeling about this recommended treatment!”

Urooj Alam's Story

Urooj Alam, 17 years old, suffered from recurrent episodes of sore throat. On complete medical check-up, she was diagnosed with recurrent tonsillitis. The doctor recommended surgical removal of Urooj’s enlarged tonsils. For this purpose, she was admitted in Ahmed Medical Complex and her tonsillectomy was performed by Dr. Syed Mudassir Shah on 28.11.2020. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. She is on her way to a complete recovery.
