Thirty-Eight years old Shazia Kausar hails from a small town near Okara. For the last ten years, Shazia has been suffering from toxic multinodular goitre, which is an extensive swelling in the thyroid gland. The doctor gave her some medicines to temporarily control her thyroid hormone levels and symptoms. The medicines worked for some time. But, now, the size of the lump has noticeably increased. Moreover, Shazia Kausar has started to face difficulty in breathing as well. 

The doctor has advised her to get a Subtotal Thyroidectomy. Subtotal Thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure in which the surgeon removes the majority of the thyroid gland. However, the surgeon leaves some parts of the thyroid tissue to achieve a normal thyroid function.

Unfortunately, Shazia is unable to afford the hefty cost of the surgery. Shazia is a private school teacher and hardly manages to earn PKR 5000 per month. This measly income hardly covers her commute expenses. Therefore, she is in no position to arrange for her surgery. She told us:
