Rizwan Shoukat's Story
Fast losing the only ability that allows him to communicate with his deaf and dumb father, six years old Rizwan Shoukat needs all the help in the world to save his losing sight of vision. Rizwan has cataract in his right eye, a condition in which the eye lens becomes clouded. As a consequence of this condition, Rizwan has already developed the problem of short-sightedness. And if he doesn’t undergo the prescribed surgical procedure i.e. the Right Phaco IOL, the pain & discomfort is going to make him lose his sight.
Phaco IOL is short for phacoemulsification with an intraocular lens. This is one of the most effective solutions for recovering and saving the fast deteriorating eyesight. First, the cloudy lens is dissolved using ultrasound waves, which is then removed via suction. Then, an artificial lens is inserted in its place. While the surgery is more than an effective option for cataract treatment, there is no denying that it is an expensive procedure as well. And that is exactly the reason why Rizwan hasn’t undergone the surgery yet. Her mother says:
“My husband doesn’t have a job because he cannot do one, given his condition and Rizwan and his brothers are too young to earn anything. So the onus of managing expenses is on me. Being a maid doesn’t help much, all I am earning per month is hardly 7000 PKR. So, my choices are as tough as they get. Either provide provisions for my family or save my son’s eyesight. And I have to tell you this, living with the burden of these choices is not an easy thing to manage”
Rizwan’s mother has sketched the family’s financial crisis aptly in as few words as possible. It couldn’t be any clearer that in the current circumstances, an IOL surgery looks far from possible. In fact, the boy’s mother would have lost all her hopes, had it not been for Transparent Hands. The organization is going to do everything it can to make sure Rizwan’s eyesight is saved, but we need your help as well. You know the patient, you know the story. All that is left for you to do is to DONATE for Rizwan’s Right Phaco IOL NOW!
