Nabeela Khalid's Story

Nabeela Khalid, 40 years old, is a mother to five beautiful daughters. She spends her entire day taking care of them and tending to their needs. However, her day to day work became difficult for her when she started experiencing palpitations. She observed a lump on the front side of her neck. She also got tremors and sweated profusely and her weight decreased steadily. On visiting the local hospital, the doctor prescribed medicines to her for temporary relief. Then, one of her test reports revealed the real cause and she was diagnosed with toxic diffuse goiter. It is an autoimmune condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive thyroid hormone. Nabeela’s symptoms manifested thyrotoxicosis. The doctor gave her medicines for the control of the disease which she took irregularly over the last 11 years.

Now, the doctor has advised subtotal thyroidectomy after control of her disease. In this surgical procedure, the surgeon leaves a small part of the thyroid gland in situ for preservation of the thyroid function. Nabeela wants to get this surgery but the financial situation of her family does not allow her to do so. Her husband works as a labor in a sofa shop and earns around 25,000 PKR per month. This salary is not sufficient even for their monthly expenses.

Forty years old Nabeela, came to us with an excessive lump that was present on the front side of her neck. She had been suffering from the symptoms of thyrotoxicosis for the past 10 years. Upon consultation, She was diagnosed with a diffuse toxic goiter. Doctor advised her to get a near total Thyroidectomy done. For this purpose, she was admitted to Lahore Care Hospital. Her surgery was performed successfully by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 14-07-21. She was discharged after two days of hospital stay. Nabeela is now fully recovered and is living a healthy life.
