Donate for Maryam’s Cochlear Implant
Maryam Aftab's Story
As we took her pictures for this campaign, Maryam looked pointed at the camera and looked confused. Later, her mother’s presence calmed her down, and she started to nod her head and smile at us. At a glance, no one can tell her the difference between her and any other two years old. Unfortunately, Maryam Aftab lacks the sense of hearing. But, you can help her. Therefore, we urge you to please donate for Maryam’s cochlear implant as much as you can.
Maryam has been suffering from Sensorineural Hearing Loss since birth. At first, her parents did not know about her condition. Later, when Maryam failed to respond to loud noises and her name, they took her to a hospital. After thorough investigation, the doctor advised After a thorough check-up, the doctor advised a cochlear implant. But, due to its hefty cost, they were unable to afford it. Therefore, they resorted to implanting a hearing aid device. Unfortunately, the hearing aid device did not prove to be useful.
Now, cochlear implant surgery is the only option for permanent cure. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that will give Maryam the ability to hear. Unfortunately, Maryam’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of a cochlear implant. Maryam’s father has been out of work for a year. A family support program is sponsoring their household expenses. Therefore, they are in no position to arrange for Maryam’s cochlear implant. Her mother told us:
“The ground beneath our feet swept away when we found out that our daughter cannot hear. Luckily, the doctor told us that it can be helped through cochlear implant surgery. Transparent Hands is our only hope now.”
We urge you to please donate for Maryam’s cochlear implant. Your donation, however small it may be, will help Maryam hear her mother’s voice. Please donate as much as you can.
Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Following the surgery/medical procedure, we persist in collecting funds and maintain the campaign on the website until funding is secured in full. Hospitals have granted us a grace period for bill payment.
Maryam Aftab's Story
Four-year-old Maryam Aftab, a resident of Mardan, had been unable to hear since birth. When her parents noticed that she was not responding to sounds, they took her to a doctor. The doctor advised them to get her a hearing aid, but it didn’t work properly. They took her to the doctor again and he diagnosed her with sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor told them that she needs to undergo cochlear implant surgery. Therefore, she was referred to Ali Medical Complex and her cochlear implant was installed in her right ear under the supervision of Dr. Jawwad Ahmed on 24.02.2022. However, this was not the end of her procedure. The doctor asked them to bring her for a follow-up visit soon for the placement of the external component of the device. She was discharged after one day of hospital stay. Maryam Aftab will start her sessions with the speech therapist very soon.
