For the last twelve years, Gul Shameer, a resident of Haripur has been suffering from chronic headaches and backaches. The doctors suspect that it is cranial cervical syndrome (CCS); a complex of symptoms which include disabling intractable migraine headaches, neck pain, concentration and memory problems, visual disturbances, ataxia, and nausea. But, to be sure, Gul Shameer needs an MRI. An MRI scan uses magnets and radio waves to capture images inside your body without invasive measures. The scan allows the doctor to see the soft tissues of the body, like muscles and organs, in addition to the bones. Gul Shameer needs the MRI to get the right diagnosis for his pain. MRI is an expensive test.

Unfortunately, Gul Shameer cannot afford the hefty cost of this test. Gul Shameer is working as a helper at a hotel and only earns PKR 18,000 per month. He has a large family to support. With this meagre income, it is not possible for him to afford his surgery. He told us:
