High Prevalence of Hepatitis C in Pakistan
Every year, numerous individuals in Pakistan, especially those living in poverty-stricken regions, are diagnosed with hepatitis C.
In fact, Pakistan faces the world’s highest count of hepatitis C patients, with nearly 10 million cases.
Hepatitis C is usually transmitted through unscreened blood transfusions and the reuse of contaminated medical equipment. There’s also a lack of awareness about the disease and the challenge is exacerbated by limited or no access to quality healthcare. Financial hardships and a lack of healthcare infrastructure often lead to late diagnoses and advanced liver damage in many cases.
Early Detection of Hepatitis C
Recognizing the importance of early detection, Transparent Hands conducts free medical camps in regions with high prevalence of hepatitis C. Through these medical camps, we provide essential check-ups and hepatitis B and C screenings, reaching thousands of people who live in vulnerable communities. Deserving patients who have been diagnosed with hepatitis C are then registered for further treatment by the Transparent Hands medical camp team.
