Amna Nadeem's Story

Amna Nadeem, a 46-year-old woman from Lahore, had an unusual ear condition since birth. She suffered from persistent fluid discharge from the ear which was giving her extreme discomfort. Despite receiving symptomatic treatment, she only got temporary relief. With time, her condition worsened and she lost her ability to hear. Amna consulted a doctor, who, after a thorough examination diagnosed her with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). To enable her to hear, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery. However, the surgical cost was overwhelming for Amna’s family.

Being a mother and a wife, Amna faced significant challenges in life due to her deafness. She longed to receive the cochlear implant and hear her children’s voices but nothing went in her favor. She lives in a modest house with her children, husband, and in-laws. Her husband earns a meager monthly income of PKR 12000 and struggles to make ends meet. Due to their financial hardships, they couldn’t afford the surgery. Transparent Hands stepped in to help Amna.

The day of transformation arrived and Amna was admitted to the National Hospital and Medical Centre, Lahore. On 2nd August 2024, her surgery was performed by Dr. Naveed Aslam who carefully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. The successful surgery gave Amna new hope and strength.

She was discharged just one day after the surgery. To allow the cochlear implant to function properly, the external component was installed six weeks after the surgery. Amna Nadeem was overjoyed with happiness and said:

“This is nothing short of miraculous. I prayed each day and wished to hear my loved ones’ voices. I never imagined that my prayers would be answered in this way. I can’t thank you enough for your support. You have given me a precious gift.”

Amna is overwhelmed with gratitude, knowing that she can now explore the world of sounds. She has regained her connection with her surroundings. You made a meaningful difference in Amna’s life. We are thankful to you for helping Amna in her time of need.
