  1. Free consultation and provision of medicines
  2. Free treatment of medical and surgical cases
  3. Free BSR and Blood Pressure tests

Challenges:

Kotri is the city and headquarters of the Kotri Taluka of Jamshoro District of Sindh province of Pakistan which is located in the southeast of the country.  Kotri is located on the right bank of the Indus river and is the 29th largest city in Pakistan with a population of 259,358 as per the 2017 Census of Pakistan. Kotri is a historical region that hosts a number of universities and is also a hub for textile production and fishing. Sadly the region remains largely neglected in terms of health care facilities. The pandemic has added another dimension to the pre-existing economic, social, and medical health care challenges of the region. Under normal circumstances due to the provision of limited health care facilities, most diseases usually go unnoticed and therefore remain untreated. Presently, a saturation of patients at public hospitals is further leaving non-COVID patients devoid of basic health care facilities. It is common knowledge that poor living standards result in adverse effects on the general health and wellbeing of the residents, causing short-term illnesses such as eye, nose, and throat infections, Hepatitis, Diabetes, and Hypertension. Over time, the mentioned illnesses have the potential of becoming acute. Presently, the public health sector remains burdened to its maximum capacity due to COVID-19, making access to basic health care a great difficulty.

Our Solution:

Transparent Hands intends to gauge the possibility of providing basic health care that is the foremost right of every individual. We look forward to organizing a 2 days medical camp at Kotri, Sindh, to provide free consultation and medicines to deserving patients. Our health practitioners will also educate the residents about hygiene and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. The camp will further educate the residents about the necessary steps required in acquiring preventive measures against certain diseases. Critical cases including patients who require undergoing surgeries will be registered with Transparent Hands for free treatment. Team Transparent Hands is determined in bringing quality healthcare facilities to the residents of Kotri. We are also looking forward to your earnest help.

Transparent Hands and Rafhan Maize Products joined hands to arrange a free two-day medical camp at City Foundation Public School, Khuda ki Basit, SITE Area, Kotri, Sindh. The medical camp was held on January 22 and 23, 2022 to provide quality health care to patients belonging to underprivileged communities.

Our camp team consisted of 25 members, including a supervisor, three doctors (one male and two females), a sonologist, three nurses (one female and two males), three pharmacists, four patient registrars, a photographer, and nine crew workers.

A total of 723 deserving patients received free check-ups, including ultrasound scans, as well as blood sugar and blood pressure tests, out of which 619 were women and children. Free medicines were given to the patients and some of them were registered by Transparent Hands for further surgical or medical treatments. The medical camp was organized and managed by Transparent Hands, and Rafhan Maize Products joined hands with the organization under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program.

The team followed all COVID SOPs such as wearing face masks, hand sanitization, and social distancing. In addition, the patients were provided with face masks and hand sanitizers free of charge. An awareness session about hygiene and cleanliness was also held for the patients and attendees.

The majority of the patients who sought consultation were suffering from flu, cough, fever, headaches, diabetes, pains, hypertension, gastric problems, and allergies. Free medicines were given to a large number of deserving patients. Only five patients were advised to undergo surgery. Transparent Hands has registered their cases and they will be treated at a panel hospital in Hyderabad.

The free medical camp in Kotri made a difference in the lives of more than 720 patients and their families. This was just the first of the 100 free medical camps Transparent Hands aims to arrange in 2022. Sponsors like Rafhan Maize Products and thousands of donors are supporting Transparent Hands’ mission to bring quality health care to even more underprivileged and remote areas of Pakistan.
